The Madonna in Glory with Saints Hermagoras and Fortunatus

Supposedly a 1st-century bishop of Aquileia, St. Hermagoras is pictured anachronistically with the episcopal mitre, crozier, and cope used from the Middle Ages until today. He has no specific attributes but can be recognized by the presence of his young companion Fortunatus, who usually carries a palm branch and gospel book and is always dressed in a deacon's dalmatic (again anachronistically).

The artist continues the practice developed in the 16th century of picturing the baby as naked but with his genitals hidden by the mother's hand (as in this case) or a length of cloth.
